EMV Chip Card FAQs
Q: Why does my Ubium Bank card now include a chip?
A: As chip technology emerges as the security standard across the US, we want you to be ready to take advantage of the added benefits of using a chip-enabled card and terminal.
Q: How does chip technology protect my information?
A: Every time you use your card at a chip-enabled terminal, the embedded chip generates a unique transaction code. This prevents stolen data from being fraudulently used.
Q: Is this the same as an EMV card or smart card?
A: Yes. EMV stands for Europay, Mastercard and Visa, who are setting standards for chip cards and chip-enabled terminals. These may also be referred to as smart cards.
Q: Can I still swipe my card to pay?
A: Yes. If a merchant is not yet chip-enabled, you can continue to swipe your card.
Q: Does my chip-enabled debit card work at the ATM?
A: Yes. You can still use your card to get cash, check your balance and more.
Q: Are there any additional charges for using a chip-enabled card?
A: No, the enhanced security of chip-enabled cards comes at no extra cost to you.
